Diakonia Council of Churches hosted an urgent interfaith meeting to address the recent xenophobic threat against the INK (Inanda, KwaMashu and surrounding areas) community north of Durban.
Church leaders and concerned members of KZN’s interfaith community held the meeting last week to follow up on a threatening letter which was addressed to the Somalian and Ethiopian foreign national businesses in the area.
Foreign national representative expressed fear of a repeat of the last wave of xenophobic attacks in the province as the threat started in a very similar way in 2015. The interfaith community listened and pledged to look at peaceful steps to assist the foreign national community who were in crisis.
The meeting ended in an interfaith prayer for peace and justice.
